Opportunity

Sturgeon Energy was founded in May 2024 with a clear objective: Add one gigawatt of storage-backed utility-scale solar energy to the grid.

Economic trends are accelerating the deployment of utility-scale solar power:

The cost of installed PV panels has fallen by 78% (2010 to 2022).
The median cost of solar PPAs is less than that of burning natural gas in existing combined-cycle natural gas units (Berkeley Lab Utility-Scale Solar, 2023 Edition).

Certain portions of the globe are saturated with solar energy, but Sturgeon Energy is located in a region (Oklahoma) that is underserved. While Texas is exploding with PV solar, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri are lagging behind. The map below shows a multi-state void in planned PV solar projects.
